Speaking against your husband or wife. I remember the historic football match between Nigeria and Brazil in Atlanta 1996. Brazil was the king of global football and they knew it. So, Nigeria losing to Brazil that night would not be a big deal.Gosh! Brazil dealt with us that night. Till around 77th minutes (about 12 minutes to the end of the game) Brazil was obviously dominating the game. The score line was Brazil 3, Nigeria 1. Despite the Brazil squad including star names such as Carlos, Rivaldo, Bebeto and Ronaldo, Nigerians watching the game still think Nigeria did not deserve such humiliation by Brazil boys, we had been beaten mercilessly. Nigerians became angry toward the end of the match; many had turned off their Television sets, some were shedding tears. While few hoped and prayed that we wold not be further disgraced with yet another goal. But the unimaginable happened in the game. At about 78th minutes Victor Ikepba stroked from 20 meters to score the second goal, everything changed beyond the 3:2 score line. Pressure came upon Brazil. And hope for the Nigeria players, they became more motivated and began to fire shots from every angle. Then another miracle, at the 90th minute, just before the final whistle, Kanu Nwankwo turned and flipped the ball over Dida and it was another goal, the equalizer. What a wonderful match. And there was a rule then, “the Golden Goal”. That the first to score in the extra time wins the game. Then came the decisive goal from Papilo in just 3 minutes of the extra time… And that was how the messy game became a message. A lot can still be done this year to make it a glorious year, the remaining part of the year is sufficient to define the whole year. Don't loose hope now. It is too early to give up on your beautiful expectations for this year. It is not over until it is over. Wipe off the tears and buckle your shoes.

GOSPEL FOR TODAY : WHEN WILL WE COME FROM UNDER GOD'S JUDGMENT AS A NATION.
Over the years, to be specific, about twenty years ago, I have been actively involved in almost all the prayer movements during and after crisis periods in the land. But I have observed that anytime something goes wrong ranging from man made disasters like wars and violence or natural disasters like epidemics and floods etc, the church is always divided in our views. Some will quickly attribute the cause of the problem to God's judgement due to the wickedness of the people either through personal sins or National idolatry. Others will blame it on the works of the devil because the church refused to pray or didn't pray enough. And a few will remain neutral on the issue or totally blame it on God. But my question is, "When will our Nation get to the point of perfection and be pleasing in the sight of such an angry God that we will not perpetually be under His judgement. To me it seems like Sierra Leone is the most Wicked country compared to other nations like Guinea, Liberia that are just next door. Or nations like Norway and Sweden whose citizens in the majority don't even believe in God, they dont go to church at all not even talk of praying or worshipping God. What has made Sierra Leone to be so unfavorable in the sight of God that with the numerous prayers of repentance that we have organised backed by numerous days and months of fasting, renouncing and denouncing covenants, uprooting demonic altars and several times renew covenants and rededicate the nation back to God. Yet this God refuses to forgive us and keep judging us from time to time. Why is this God biased towards us as a nation. When will we come from under His judgement? Is it possible that we are judging Him right or we are misrepresenting Him? Are we viewing this God as the God of the Bible or the God of another religion. If we are viewing Him as the God of the Bible, are we using the Lens of the Old Testament or the lens of the New Testament. If we see Him as the God of the New Testament, do we actually understand His attitude towards us from the New Testament perspective? In an attempt to understand the New Testament perspective of the God of the Bible, I decided to meditate on the following scriptures:John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about his promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. After reading these two scriptures in context, I realised that this God still love the world and that He is not in a hurry to punish the world, nor allow any to perish untill all should come to repentance. So I am beginning to think. How can God contradict Himself when He says He does not wish that any should perish in the world He says He so loved and yet busy destroying them for everything they do wrong but especially Sierra Leone. Please note I don't know much that's why I am asking these questions. I also read in John 9 when Jesus and His disciples came across a man born blind and they asked the usual question at the time as to who was responsible for the man's blindness. Whether the sins of the man or that of his parents. I was shocked by jesus' response. He said none of the above. Also elsewhere in Luke chapter 13, Jesus was confronted with another question. Let's read it.
Luke 13:1 There were some present at that very time who told him of the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered thus? 3 I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. After reading this passage, I am beginning to get some answers that the God of the Bible especially the God of the New Testament and the dispensation we live in is still a loving God and does not favour one nation over the other and His sovereignty is unquestionable. I also read somewhere again in Romans 5:8 that He demonstrates His love toward us in that while we were still sinners, He still died for us. I even read again somewhere in the Old Testament and I saw something similar. Lamentations 3:22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end. 23 they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.
Even though I don't know much, however, I must admit, I don't think we are under God's judgement as a Nation. Besides, I will not be comfortable in following a God that is perpetually angry and looking for any possible opportunity to strike me at any time. This is another trial we are going through as a Nation and an opportunity for God to reach out to those who need to repent and draw closer in a loving relationship with Him. May the Lord use this article to help us see God in a better light and draw closer to Him so that He can also draw closer to us. Blessings always.
