*MORNING BITE *
_*as for me*_
_But as for me, I will always proclaim what God has done; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. (NLT) -Psalm 75:9_
```
A lot of people take pleasure in boasting about themselves and their success. It's because they need to make themselves feel valued.
It takes a humble person to not deceive themselves into taking credit for their own accomplishments. The person who feels valued by God will boast about all that God has done for them.
Everything comes into perspective as you grow in relationship with your heavenly Father.
What praises are you singing to the God of Jacob?```
REVELATION 8 - The Seven Trumpets
Part-5
“And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; and the name of the star is called Wormwood, and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.” Revelation 8:10-11
Now another terrible force is seen coming against the dying Empire of Rome. Some people get confused as this says the ‘star’ came from heaven, but we have to remember that these word-pictures are all symbols to describe the forces who attacked Rome and brought about the prophecy that it would be divided, and made place for the strange ‘Little Horn’ kingdom, the papacy, to be set up.
The prophecy points out that this ‘scourge’ would be brief but dramatic, like a blazing meteorite in the sky, it soon vanishes. The period covered by this trumpet was as brief as a burning star, 451-453.
By this prophecy we are directed to that dreadful scourge, the haughty Attila with his frightful Huns, who, during his reign, became the “terror of the world.” Attila actually called himself the “Scourge of God;” “Grandson of Nimrod, nurtured in Engedi, by the grace of God, King of the Huns, Goths, Danes, and Medes, the terror of the world.”
And “It is a saying worthy of the ferocious pride of Attila that the grass never grew on the spot where his horse had trod.” He “alternately insulted and invaded the East and the West, and urged the rapid downfall of the Roman Empire.”
The ‘fountains of waters’ refers to the area that he mostly attacked, which was where most of the rivers started, in the regions of the Alps, and on the portions of the empire where the rivers flow to most of Europe in all directions. It was really the area of the “fountains of waters.” Wormwood is a very bitter tasting herb; Attila was horribly cruel.
Finally he demanded Honoria, the daughter of the Emperor, to be his bride. At first this was refused, but finally as his ferocious attacks came again, she was given to him. There was a huge drunken feast at the wedding, and the next day when Attila did not appear from his room, his men left him alone for a while, thinking he didn’t want to be disturbed. Finally when he did not answer their loud cries, they went to see what was wrong. He was found dead, as the result of an artery in his throat having burst, drowning him in his own blood.
This is what alcohol can do. Remember the other conqueror that died as a result of a drunken feast? It was Alexander the Great.
The Word for Today
*Don’t Try To Please Everybody*
‘I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God.’ Galatians 1:10 NLT
We tend to fall into one of two traps:
*1) Thinking too much of ourselves.* Harry Truman was thrust into the presidency by the death of Franklin Roosevelt. That’s when Sam Rayburn, Speaker of the House, took him aside and said, ‘From here on out you’re going to have lots of people around you, and they are going to tell you what a great man you are. But Harry…you know and I know you ain’t.’ Truman took that advice to heart, and became a truly great president. *To succeed in the assignment God has given you in life you need two things – dependence on God and confidence in God* (see 1 John 3:21, 22). As long as those two things are in place you’ll succeed.
*2) Thinking too little of ourselves.* Many of us have made it our goal to change someone’s opinion of us; to prove to them that we’re valuable. Until you stop agreeing with the opinions of those who criticise you, you’ll remain locked in a prison of your own making. *When your critic’s opinion becomes your opinion, you’ve built a prison inside your soul with only one prisoner – you.* The fact is some of the people you’ve spent your life trying to impress may never be impressed. And you need to accept that from God’s perspective, it doesn’t matter! *To succeed, you must be able to work alongside others without letting yourself be controlled by their moods and opinions.* That’s why Paul wrote, ‘I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.’
Do have a blessed week ahead!
Happy Sunday!
*HERALD OF GLORY*
*THEME: FULLY GIVEN TO THE LORD JESUS*
*_ROMANS 10:9 (KJV)_*
*That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.*
Many Christians are very familiar with our scripture reference as they would have confessed it at salvation or in leading another to Christ. The living of many however, reveal glaring inconsistencies with the realities of the confessing Jesus as Lord.
The Christian fully surrendered his life, will and all when he confessed Jesus as Lord. He took lordship and pre-eminence over you to mean that you are following His leading and desires. Jesus Himself gives the first hint into the significance of being called 'Lord' when He addressed a great multitude of people along with His disciples in the plain, _"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?" (Luke 6:46)_. If anyone recognizes Jesus Christ as his or her Lord, then the first requirement from such a person is utter and total obedience.
Many Christians seem not to be fully given to the Lord. This is evident in their pursuit of desires far from that which is the very heartbeat of the Lord Jesus. Many fail to give their time, committment and other resourses to ensure that the Lord's heart be satisfied. If you could give your life to Him as Lord, what couldn't you give to Him? Your money, time or resources? Be fully given to the Lord even as you are, and let your living confirm this glorious reality in you.
*DECLARATION:*
Lord Jesus, I am fully given to you. I withhold nothing from you because nothing could be more precious than you. Nothing could take the pre-eminence in my living other than you. I work all day long to see your heart always satisfied. Glory the Lord Jesus.
_...but wisdom is profitable to direct._
*Ecclesiastes 10:10*
*In the book of Ecclesiastes, God reveals the master plan for winning in hopeless situations.*
This story applies to any circumstance. It applies to a hopeless marriage, business or church. It applies to your case too. *You will win in this fight because God's wisdom is the master key to overcoming impossible situations.*
*The duty of a woman with direction to act wisely.*
Do not deprive your husband of food, sex or peace at home. In fact, load it on him until he is suffocating with your love. *He will be charmed by your sweetness and will have no complaints.*
*Attending church must be done with great wisdom and circumspection.* If you are married to a husband who is *unyielding* and *insensitive* to the things of God, *you cannot afford to behave like someone who is married to apostle Peter.* Your circumstances are entirely different!
Learn from Abigail, wife of Nabal in *1 Samuel 25:36.* She did two things. *First, she said nothing to Nabal. It is not wise to say some things.*
*Secondly , her conversation with him did not centre on controversial issues.* If you learn how to speak wisely, you will be as successful as Abigail was.
*(Proverbs 29:11).*
*Some women quarrel with their husbands constantly; fighting and arguing about every issue.*
*Men do not like to be shouted at. Men do not like to feel they have lost an argument. Be wise when dealing with men.*
